Preschoolers are Awesome

I was reminded today of how awesome preschoolers are.

I visited my mom and her preschool classroom to read a book as a guest reader today.  If you want an accurate definition of what pure energy is, look no further.  From the moment I walked into the room, there was activity.  I walked into the room, hugged my mom and found a seat, albeit a very small seat, and sat down to observe the 19 "little friends" go about their business.  It wasn't 10 seconds before I was the center of their multiple attentions.  As I sat in my mini-chair, I was informed of their mathematical prowess:  "3+3=6!"  "2+2=4!"  I was then bombarded with questions, testing my knowledge of arithmetic (6x1=6) and also my preference on the color wheel (red).

Lunch then proceeded with much pomp and circumstance, as I was introduced to the class as "Mister Alex," since my brother frequently visits the class (particularly around snack time).  Lunch time is especially interesting not only for the variety of lunchboxes, but also how the kids try to sneak their way into eating their dessert before their sandwich.  It was during lunch that I was made aware of various talents, specifically one kid's ability to beat-box (he did better than I ever will).  I was also informed of how I was his "bro."  Sweet.

If it wasn't awesome enough already, lunch was followed by coloring books.  This was one of my favorite things to do when I was little.  As I watched them color and gave input for color choices, I was asked how my name was spelled.  "A-L-E-X," I said, as I watched them scrawl it out on the paper.  Then they handed the pictures to me, saying, "This is for you, Mister Alex."  I was so pumped.  Now I have pictures from my new "little friends" to put on my fridge when I get back to school.  After that, I read my book to them and got ready to go.  As they were lining up, I was mobbed again with hugs and multiple high-fives.  These kids were awesome.  If you have the opportunity to read in or visit a classroom like that, do it.  You will not regret it.
